Evidence-Based Services

Strategic offers prevention, treatment, and recovery support services for mental and substance use disorders.

Brief Strategic Family Therapy (BSFT®)

This is an award-winning, evidence-based practice that treats external and internal symptoms in youth ages 6-18 years while restructuring problematic family interactions. The BSFT model is a trauma-sensitive, culturally competent, strength-based model. On average 12-16 weekly sessions are conducted, at 1-1.5 hour length. BSFT focuses on improving parenting practices, leadership and guidance, improves family communication and relationships, bonding and connectedness among family members, teaches families ability to maintain conflicts, builds positive decision making skills, reduces negativity in family interactions, and reduces negative behavior in youth.

Functional Family Therapy (FFT)

This is an evidence-based treatment model conducting family therapy for ages 11-18. This modality requires family involvement as well as extrafamilial influences to facilitate positive growth and development. Average length of service is between 3-6 months (12-14 sessions, but can be up to 26 depending on family). FFT consists of five major components. Each component has its own goals, focus, and intervention strategies and techniques that the counselor will drive while the family does the work. The FFT clinical model concentrates on decreasing risk factors and increasing protective factors that directly affect adolescents, with a particular emphasis on familial factors.

Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT®)

An evidence-based, structured, short-term treatment model (8-25 sessions) for children and adolescents impacted by trauma and their parents or caregivers.  It effectively improves a range of trauma-related outcomes as well as many other trauma impacts, including depression, anxiety, cognitive and behavioral problems, as well as improving the participating parent’s or caregiver’s personal distress about the child’s traumatic experience, effective parenting skills, and supportive interactions with the child.
